The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health combines public/population health, international medicine, wildlife and conservation medicine and infectious disease teaching and research. The department’s goal is to improve human, animal, and ecosystem health locally, nationally, and internationally.
The Wildlife Clinic is a teaching hospital. All fourth-year students rotate through this section. The Clinic provides diagnostic, surgical, and professional consultation services for diverse wildlife species native to New England and works with local zoos and aquaria. The Clinic serves the six New England states. The mission of the Wildlife Clinic at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is to:
The Ward Attendant supports the Wildlife Clinic by ensuring a clean and neat environment for all wild animal patients. The wildlife ward attendant works with clinical staff assisting with the medical and husbandry needs for different species of wildlife, keeping up with facility maintenance, and will assist veterinary students and volunteers with husbandry needs. In addition, the staff will care for, maintain husbandry needs, and monitor wildlife patients in the nursery during the busy spring and summer season. The attendant will work with clinic staff and have an active role in the training of work-study students, volunteers, and other temporary help in the clinic and in the nursery. Weekend and holiday coverage will be required.
