Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced remote centered environment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Supervising Life Actuary with experience in Long Term Care Insurance pricing.

Under the general direction of the Chief Life Actuary, the Actuary Supervisor performs highly  skilled actuarial analysis, works on the most complex Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI)  actuarial rate filings, and assists the Chief Life Actuary in managing the work of the life  actuarial staff. Provides actuarial support to other units within the Department. Participates in  NAIC committees related to LTCI.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible  for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have  a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code  requirements may void the appointment.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to work in a high rise building. 
  • The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Assocaite of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
  • Five years of relevant experience in Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI) pricing
  • Degree in Advanced Mathematics
