ASED current clients include the Space Launch System (SLS) Program, International Space Station (ISS) Program, Gateway Program, Human Exploration Development and Operations, space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences, and advanced propulsion. As a partner with NASA in space exploration our impact is history in the making. **Description** The **SLS pyrotechnic specialist** provides technical evaluation of existing and developing flight safety systems (FSS) with a focus on pyrotechnic subsystems and its components. The specialist will indirectly report to the SLS Systems Engineering and Integration Office (SEIO) and interface with SLS Elements such as the Booster and Core Stage Offices. There will also be opportunities to interface with FSS developers and the Air Force Space Command (AFSPC). The primary responsibility of this position is systems analysis which encompasses requirements and verification analyses. Requirements analysis requires the specialist to define and/or review requirements and verification analysis includes the identification of verification methods, assessment of verification approaches, review of verification products, and participation in test activities via review of plans, procedures, and oversight. The focus of this process is FSS. Other responsibilities include risk management, concept design, and participation in design and development activities. Risk management requires identification of risks, formulating risk mitigation approaches, and tracking risk reduction activities. The FSS/pyrotechnic specialist engineer is responsible for leading change management via writing and combining comments including resolution of document discrepancies. Resolving of discrepancies includes tracking of manufacturing, verification, validation, certification, and qualification activities with a focus on test. Each of these roles requires leadership, data management, data mining and data reduction. Reporting is also required as a tool to share results and provide SEIO and other stakeholders information for decision making. This includes performing post-test and post-flight assessments of results with recommendations to the stakeholders and collaboration across elements and interfacing with the AFSPC. Leadership roles include leading working groups, trade studies, technical exchange meetings and panels which enable FSS risk and issue resolution. All FSS responsivities include hardware (electrical and mechanical), software, and the integration of both to field a final product that will meet SLS requirements including range safety requirements. The specialist will use systems engineering skills combined with knowledge of FSS with their expertise in pyrotechnic ordnance subsystems and components. This coupled with knowledge of rocket, launch and range safety requirements is essential for flight crew safety, public safety, worker safety and mission success. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering or related field is required. A degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS degree with at least 22 years of relevant experience in systems engineering. This task requires the ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing including the ability to interact professionally with systems engineers, programmatic managers, integration managers, specialty engineers, co-workers, organization management, and the client. The job requires travel in the domestic USA and the possibility international travel. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. \#ESSCA
