What You Can Look Forward To:

ERI is seeking a qualified candidate for summer internship, located in San Leandro, CA and reporting to the Engineering Manager (Product Design Team) in New Technology and Product Development (NTPD) department. The NTPD department is a dynamic group of engineers and technicians with a wide range of backgrounds, several of them holding PhD and Masters Degrees. We are looking for a talented and energetic candidate who can thrive in a team environment and support NTPD projects for developing and delivering innovative products for energy recovery applications.

The position requires a talented and motivated engineering intern with expertise in machine design, FEA, instrumentation and experimental validation of turbo machines and other high-pressure fluid equipment. Expertise in use of CAD packages such as SolidWorks, FEA tools and documentation is required.

What You Will Do?

  • Assist in detailed design and making engineering drawings for component test rigs
  • Run component tests, accelerated life tests and full product validation tests at high pressures safely
  • Perform test data analysis using Excel and / or Python
  • Document testing activities maintain comprehensive records
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution of assembly, test loop preparation, testing and validation processes
  • Follow safety and laboratory protocols during all testing activities
  • Perform other duties and contribute to special projects as assigned

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at an accredited University with concentration in machine design is required.
  • Experience with commercial CAD packages such as SolidWorks to make engineering drawings, GD&T is required
  • Hands on experience with assembly, testing and experimentation is required and experience with sensors/transducers (to measure pressure, temperature, flow rate, vibration, position, pressure pulsations, noise etc.), controls/data acquisition, data collection languages (e.g. LabVIEW) is required.
  • Experience with mechanical design, assembly, testing and selection of rotodynamic & reciprocating fluid machines such as compressors, pumps, turbines etc., is highly desirable
  • Familiarity using commercial FEA packages like ANSYS or Solid Works Simulation, data analysis tools like MABLAB or Python
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to work/lead in a team environment, under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and be goal oriented
  • Ability to oversee and execute on assigned projects from start to completion in a highly analytical, detailed and precise manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This range may be modified in the future. The salary range for this role is $30 to $40 per hour.
