Performs clerical and paraprofessional duties in the Legislative Reference Library using office equipment, computers, and automated systems. Organizes and maintains legislative documents and files. Monitors legislative activity and updates records during legislative session. Performs data entry accurately. Assists with administrative support functions and projects. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment.
Assists in opening and/or closing the library.
Communicates with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
Answers telephones and assists walk-in patrons by taking messages or providing basic reference service.
Accurately analyzes and enters data into various electronic systems.
Provides quality control of data entry.
Photocopies, scans, and faxes materials.
Assists patrons in using computers, photocopiers, and printers.
Sorts and distributes mail, and prepares and mails materials.
Shelves library materials, files documents, and maintains library collection.
Performs inventory checks for office supplies and materials.
Transports materials between locations, including lifting items up to 40 pounds.
Performs basic circulation functions using library’s automated system.
Assists librarians and administrative staff with special projects.
Works extensive evening and weekend hours during legislative session.
Monitors and records legislative activity during legislative session.
Organizes, maintains, and/or scans legislative documents and files.
Edits digital files and documents.
Provides quality control of data entry.
Labels folders for archival materials.
Prioritizes projects and assignments according to instructions given and current workflow.
Assists with other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience providing customer service.
Experience performing general office duties using general office equipment.
Experience analyzing and accurately entering electronic data.
Experience organizing files.
Experience with word processing software and PDF documents.
Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
Coursework in library science.
Experience in a library, archives, or related environment.
Knowledge of the legislative process in Texas.
Experience preparing documents for scanning.
Experience creating or editing PDF documents and images and transferring files via FTP.
Experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites.
Experience using automated library systems.
Experience proof reading documents.
Extended evening and weekend hours as required.
Ability to produce legible handwritten labels.
Ability to work remotely if necessary.
Ability to lift 40 lbs. and meet other physical demands of the position such as manual dexterity, long-term standing, sitting, and repetitive motions such as bending, reaching, filing, and scanning.
