Position Title: Intern - Highway Patrol

Minimum Salary: $17.33 per hour

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description:

Time will be spent assisting office staff with special projects dealing with operations and administrative plans. Interns will spend time assisting troopers in crash scene mapping and crash investigations and reconstruction of crashes, assist with firearms training sessions, assist with sobriety checkpoints and shadow Troopers and Office personnel. Intern will assist with motor carrier enforcement laws and learn working knowledge of motor carrier laws. Interns may assist with SWAT training scenarios. Intern will work irregular hours outside the 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. time frame during internship as well as weekends. Interns may complete various other duties deemed feasible.

Qualifications: Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
