Job Description
As the Director of Physical Security and Workplace Safety, you’ll be responsible for developing and driving Hagerty’s strategy for providing a safe and secure environment for all guests, employees, events, media, and vendors. This includes the oversight of day-to-day security and safety operations, the coordination of the security for Hagerty’s owned events, executive protection, the planning and execution of emergency response and establishing and maintaining relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. You’ll collaborate with executives, board members and shareholders and will be proactive in seeking out ways to improve the safety and security of all.

What you’ll do
- Lead 24-Hour Security and direct Security operations to ensure the protection of Hagerty property, employees, and all persons attending Hagerty owned events.
- Direct Hagerty security risk assessments, and the ongoing refinement and implementation of Threat Response Protocols, Emergency Response, and Event Security Plans.
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and day-to-day leadership of Hagerty Security officers.
- Act as a liaison with law enforcement and public safety representatives, including local, state, and federal levels to maintain and enhance relationships with public and private sector representatives ensuring best practices programs for safety and security, including but not limited to, City and County Police, EMS, City Planning, U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Protective Security Advisor, Federal Bureau of Investigations-Joint Terrorism Task Force and each offices’ state Office of Homeland Security.
- Develop and implement traveling security in accordance with security best practices including but not limited to, office visits, conferences, events, and media events to assist with the security of key executives, shareholders and board members in the hotel, travel to and from the event and while at the event.
- Advise Executive Management Team on strategic security issues, including event related initiatives and maintaining best practice standards.
- Responsibility for taking a primary role in security-related investigations as assigned, including but not limited to, interviewing of witnesses, reviewing of video and other evidence and creation of investigatory file and recommendations.
- Work closely with various personnel, including executive management team, shareholders, and board members on any security related items.
- Oversee the management of Hagerty security management systems, including card access, CCTV, medical systems, and keying/lock schedule.
- Develop and implement training materials, including but not limited to, tabletop exercises and full-scale exercises regarding Hagerty Physical Security Policies and Operations issues for North America.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Security standard operating procedures, a series of policies and procedures that establish the security protocols for the safety and security of the Hagerty offices, including post orders, dot maps, etc.
- Oversight of all program testing, including but not limited to, Perimeter Hardening Program and Penetration Testing.
- Coordinate security efforts for all VIP’s attending Hagerty events.
- Assist employees with comments, complaints and suggestions related to Hagerty Policies, security issues, and safety concerns.
- Assist Hagerty’s Legal and HR Departments with investigations and terminations, as necessary.
- Maintain keying inventory for Hagerty buildings.
- Account for all Hagerty security equipment including, but not limited to, PPE, cameras, card readers, alarm systems, credentials, AED’s and medical equipment
- Provide security services for the CEO and other key executives as requested.
This might describe you
- Strong experience in law enforcement, military (operational experience preferred), or security (corporate security required).
- Previous supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate staff.
- Concealed weapons permit and the ability to successfully complete a weapons proficiency program with annual certification.
- Experience with threat and vulnerability assessments and reports.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- First Aid, CPR & AED certified by either American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Familiarity with, and experience in, developing employee safety and security training.
- Familiarity with safety, security, emergency, and evacuation procedures.
- Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization.
- Experience modifying and adapting existing programs, services, policies, and processes to meet changing needs and expectations.
- Ability to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to travel for potentially weeks at a time.

- This position will be worked from our Corporate Office in Traverse City, Michigan.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
