CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Blue World Construction is seeking highly motivated, self-starters for the position of Construction Technician. The desired candidate must have previous hands-on construction experience with construction-related field activities such as process piping, working on heavy construction sites, exposed to HDPE butt/electro-fusion welding, above and below ground pipe installation, concrete/form setting, welding of pipe and structural steel and repairs, rigging and fabrication, and working varied shifts in the field under various climates. This is a true 'jack-of'all-trades' position. The ideal candidate must have a good work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills, have a team mentality, and must be safety-oriented in all situations and environments. The candidate will be required to take direction from the project manager(s) and site superintendent, and work independently as well as potentially lead small crews in various tasks. This position requires an ability to perform various types of skilled labor as well. There is definite opportunity for growth and promotion for those individuals that promote teamwork, lead by example, can learn on the fly, and require little direction. It is important to understand there is opportunity for travel for up to three weeks at a time per rotation. The company does reimburse employees for travel time and per diem (daily while traveling). The company pays for accommodations including airfare (if/when required) to out of state sites, as well as accommodations (AirBnb, VRBO and/or hotel).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Construction Experience – minimum 3-5 years preferred in remedial construction, process installation, and site work preferred; 1 year required of piping and construction, specifically irrigation installation

• Driver's License – Required – in good standing

• Reside in central to northern NJ area, but be willing to travel around NJ as needed - per diem and mileage compensation provided when more than 1.5 hrs from Florham Park office. Travel is also required for up to 3 weeks at a time out of state (we go as far west as OR and CA and to the south in TX and FL from time to time).

• Education – high school or equivalent required

• Experience - we need multi-talented individuals that have experience, and are willing to gain additional experience in installing process pipe, HDPE, welding, rigging, equipment operation, installing equipment, carpentry, painting; HDPE fusion beneficial

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performing heavy construction, process construction and environmental remedial construction projects in line with company standards

• Using hand tools and construction equipment safely and efficiently

• Communicating effectively with superiors as well as with construction crew workers

• Taking direction effectively and professionally from Project Managers and Construction Superintendents

• Performing activities outside of typical construction tasks. Experience that is beneficial to have for this position: working with mechanical, pipeline work, electrical, fabrication, masonry, plumbing, and rigging; ability to troubleshoot small engines and equipment, as well as welding preferred.

• Primary role is Field Technician, performing construction-related field activities.

• Requires hands-on work effort in most cases, and ability to adapt to changing conditions quickly and safely; mechanical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn with minimal direction is the key to your ability to move-up in our organization. 

• Travel outside NJ will occasionally be required

Minimum education/experience requirements:

• High school diploma at a minimum or equivalent required. Associates degree in science/technology preferred. Certifications for welding and rigging preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification and any current updates are preferred

• Additional certifications such as OSHA 10- or 30-hour Training, Competent Person, MSHA, etc. preferred

TYPICAL HOURS/SCHEDULE:

• 7am-4pm

• Monday-Friday

• Overtime is available

PAY: Competitive salary commensurate with experience
