DESCRIPTION

Established in 2011, the UC San Diego Centers for Integrative Health provide whole-person health care guided by the mind-body-spirit connection. Our Centers foster innovative research, education, and clinical programs that have inspired an inside-out transformation of health care.

The Centers for Integrative Health collaborate with every department and division at UC San Diego, have a physical presence in more than a dozen locations, and have an international reach. The five Centers for Integrative Health include: * The Center for Integrative Medicine provides integrative physician consults, osteopathic manual medicine, acupuncture/Chinese medicine, massage, jin shin jyutsu, integrative nutrition, integrative shared medical visits, and mindful health coaching at more than 11,000 patient visits per year across more than a dozen clinical locations. * The Center for Mindfulness was among the first university-based centers around the world devoted solely to the teaching and study of mindfulness. The Center has more than 20 instructors teaching courses to more than 500 participants per year. It has also participated in numerous research projects and publications. * The Krupp Center for Integrative Research is one of the most robust integrative health research programs in the U.S. thanks to a generous gift from Richard N. Krupp (1930-2015). It supports and administers various independent research projects as well as practice-based research in the areas of integrative nutrition, natural medicine, lifestyle medicine, and integrative public health. * The Center for Integrative Nutrition houses state-of-the-art professional training, clinical care, and rigorous research in integrative nutrition and natural medicine. Services include personal healing through food-as-medicine, targeted natural therapeutics, and the creation and management of dietary interventions for many high-profile research projects. -
* The Center for Integrative Education oversees educational programs for medical students, residents and the community, continuing education for health professionals, and numerous outreach activities.

The Krupp Center of Integrative Research is the research hub across centers and is the primary domain for this position.

Under the supervision of the Krupp Research Operations Manager and Lead Health Coach, this position supports CIH-Krupp research studies by applying professional health education concepts and skills. The incumbent, focusing on the Spanish-speaking patient population, supports study participants in making lifestyle changes as directed by the study objectives and complying with the study requirements; serves as a liaison between Spanish-speaking research participants and the study team. The Health Coach facilitates a positive participant study experience consistent with the study protocol; organizes schedules and conducts study visits; collects and documents data and participants’ feedback to ensure the overall continued success of research projects.The coach also maintains participants’ files, creates participant reports and notifications, tracks study participation, attends regular study meetings with study staff, clinicians, and investigators, and creates and presents weekly reports of participants’ status and any issues that may threaten study participation.

Uses professional health education concepts. Applies campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six years (6) of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English languages.

  • Working knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

  • Working knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.

  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.

  • Ability to acquire the requisite skills to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform health coaching in English and Spanish.

  • Experience with research and project coordination on social and/or behavioral science research studies in the areas of nutrition, epidemiology, and health equity.

  • Demonstrated experience in research data collection and quality control.

  • Experience in public speaking, preparing and delivering presentations, planning and facilitating group events.

  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

  • Experience conducting research subject visits, including interviewing, screening, consenting, and documenting, and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Computer skills, perform data entry, and use the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Access, PowerPoint), internet and data management software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching certification preferred.
