We are a rapidly growing winery just outside vibrant Greenville, SC. This is your chance to grow your winemaking career in one of the fastest-growing cities in the Southeast (with a metro population of 1 million people). At City Scape Winery we believe winemaking is both an art and a science, where skill and creativity come together to create unique wines that delight our guests. You’ll work in our brand-new, state-of-the-art cellar with top-of-the-line equipment and report to our head winemaker, Josh. We’re looking for an assistant winemaker with experience, passion, and humility who will embrace teamwork and excellence to help take our wines to the next level.

Primary Responsibilities:

Production
-Assisting in harvest operations, barrel movements, racking, blending, plate and frame filtrations, and bottling line preparations
-Ensuring the cellar is clean, organized, and free from debris and clutter
-Performing regular wine rackings, filtrations, and SO2 additions to tanks and barrels
-Maintaining a regular barrel topping schedule and CO2 topping on stainless steel tanks
-Mixing wine juices and concentrates in preparation for fermentations
-Performing calculations regarding additions of acids, enzymes, and other products during the winemaking process
-Harvest operations including crushing, pressing, punch-downs, barrel movements, racking, and blending
-Accurately stocking wine club orders and distribution orders
-Assist in general maintenance and repair of winemaking equipment
-Ensuring all required juice/must additions happen prior to the start of fermentation

Enology
-Pulling samples and running pH and SO2 measurements
-Performing paper chromatography for malolactic fermentations
-Charting fermentations on a daily basis to ensure complete and healthy fermentations
-Submitting samples to ETS labs for pre-bottling checks
-Expressing curiosity in learning all aspects of winemaking and enology

Bottling
-Ensuring that all wines are prepped for bottling requirements prior to bottling day
-Arriving early on bottling days to ensure the bottling line is steamed, rinsed, and all bottling equipment is set up for bottling operations
-Coordinating with the head winemaker to facilitate the ordering, receiving, and inventory of winemaking supplies

Administrative
-Maintaining winemaking log book, tank labels, and barrel chemistry spreadsheet
-Collaborating with the winemaker to refine and improve best practices/SOPs for winery operations
-Inventory management of bottled and bulk wines

Tasting Room
-Assisting one day per week in tasting room operations, including but not limited to: performing wine tastings, bartending, giving tours, event setup/breakdown, etc.
-Ensuring tasting room shelves are regularly stocked with wines
-Educating customers and team members on how our wines are made, along with tasting notes and other unique information

Required Education and Professional Experience
-BS in Enology or Fermentation Science, or a combination of a related science degree and winemaking experience
-Minimum of three vintages of winemaking experience
-One year of full-time wine production experience preferred
-Must be able to safely operate a forklift to unload trucks, dump grapes, and move supplies
-Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment used in winemaking
-Ability to perform mathematical operations and calculations related to winemaking
-Proficiency in Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets

General Requirements
-Authorization to work in the US and be 21 years of age or older
-Ability to clearly comprehend directions written and verbally expressed in English
-Ability to write clearly and correspond professionally in English

Physical Requirements
-Ability to accurately discern wine characteristics and flaws when tasting and smelling
-Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, including standing for extended periods of time on concrete, kneeling, stooping, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling weights of up to 60 pounds
-Ability to regularly walk over rough or uneven ground for extended periods and distances
-Ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to outside elements, including hot, cold, wet, and damp conditions
-Physical ability to stock and organize cases of wine on pallets for extended periods of time
-Visual acuity: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
-Ability to work long or extended hours when the needs of winemaking or harvest require it
-Ability to speak audibly and hear clearly at normal conversational levels
